WANAKA, NEW ZEALAND
Mahi uku is a quiet ceramic studio, designed as a separate structure within the property to provide a creative workspace. Barn-inspired in form, the studio features floor-to-ceiling picture windows that frame expansive views of the lake and surrounding mountains, drawing natural light deep into the space and reinforcing its connection to the landscape. Materiality echoes the tones of the surrounding land, with a hero rammed earth wall anchoring the interior. Natural stone, leather accents, and stainless-steel benchtops provide both durability and tactility, supporting the functional demands of the studio while maintaining a refined aesthetic. Robust yet warm, the palette balances practicality with atmosphere, allowing the studio to function seamlessly as a place for making as well as a space for reflection and inspiration.
