MCMAHONS POINT, NEW SOUTH WALES
(STUDENT DESIGN PROJECT)
Designed as a tranquil retreat for its semi-retired owners, the apartment reflects their style through layered materiality and a colour palette drawn from treasured artworks. The space is open yet carefully balances public and private realms. At its heart, a sculptural staircase takes pride of place, a striking architectural feature that also serves seamlessly as a functional element for everyday life. Feature marble and warm timber are layered throughout, with gentle curves in both fixed and freestanding pieces providing contrast to the home’s sharp geometry. Downstairs, the house offers varied experiences for entertaining, set against a backdrop of panoramic views. Upstairs, a private retreat provides spaces to reflect, work and unwind, where the considered material choices foster a sense of refuge and intimacy.
